SEO prompt for any AI tool

Internal linking opportunities prompt

Find useful contextual links, strengthen important pages and avoid forced or repetitive anchor text.

Updated 10 October 20266 minute read
A structured SEO prompt separating findings, recommendations and approved changes

Copy-and-paste prompt

This prompt works with any AI assistant that can review your website project or the information you share with it. That includes Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and the assistants built into Lovable, Bolt and Replit.

What to give the assistant: Give the assistant access to the website project or the relevant live URLs. Include a previous report when the prompt asks it to compare changes over time.

Ask for the report first. Approve individual changes only after the assistant has shown you where it found each issue and you understand the proposed fix.

Review this website's internal linking. Do not add links yet.

1. Inventory all indexable pages and state the main purpose and topic of each.
2. Identify important pages with few or no contextual internal links.
3. Find existing paragraphs where another page would genuinely help the reader. Quote the source sentence and name the destination page.
4. Suggest concise, natural anchor text that describes the destination. Avoid repeating the same exact-match phrase across the site.
5. Flag links that compete, misdescribe their destination, point to redirects or rely on buttons without real URLs.
6. Identify topic clusters that lack a clear hub or logical route between related pages.
7. Do not invent a relationship simply to increase link counts.

Return a table: source URL, destination URL, reason the link helps, suggested anchor, exact insertion point and confidence. Put the ten strongest opportunities first and wait for approval before editing.

When to use it

  • After publishing a group of related pages.
  • When priority service pages are difficult to discover.
  • During a content refresh or topical-authority project.

What it checks

  • Orphaned and weakly linked pages
  • Contextually relevant link opportunities
  • Anchor-text quality
  • Redirecting or misleading links
  • Missing topic hubs

What it cannot prove

An AI assistant can inspect supplied code and information, but it should not be treated as independent evidence that Google can crawl, index or rank the website.

  • The model needs the current page copy to recommend accurate insertion points.
  • More links are not automatically better.
  • Business priority and conversion importance still need human judgement.

Worked example

This is an illustrative scenario rather than a client result.

A guide explains how canonical tags work but never links to the technical SEO service page. The prompt proposes one contextual link where a reader is likely to need implementation help, rather than adding the same link to every paragraph.

Verify the result

After using the prompt, check every approved change on the published website. Save the original report and the final verification so you can see what actually changed.

Book a site review and we will check the live pages for you, or send us a message if you would like to describe the problem first. You can also browse the rest of the resources hub.
